Level 1 Autism and Dating

Level 1 autistics are traversing the dating world and seeking romantic partners. Romantic adult relationships are a highly complex form of socializing and autism affects social interactions.

Neurotypicals interact differently in romantic relationships than autistics do. They have different expectations for love, sex, and emotional interactions. As a result, many neurodiverse romantic partnerships are fraught with difficulties. Autistics in often feel hopeless; non-autistics often feel confused and frustrated.

In many cases, Level 1 autistics match with neurotpyicals that have high levels of body empathy, creating a partnership that works well in the beginning but that, over time, becomes traumatic for both partners. Many such relationships end in separation and divorce.
